The way you are using shadow here is so expressive. It shows the coming of night, Sangwine's mood, and the feeling of clandestine preparations. I really feel for Sangwine. Everyone else is busy with clear tasks, while he has nothing to do but be in the way and worry about tomorrow.

Sum'melph is the one person who lived (besides Sangwine) because somebody had to escape to tell everybody what happened.

Though, since I am (once again) rereading Lint from the beginning....didn't Sum'melph die in the infamous Pixie Pass battle? I take my question from #25 and whatever page it is that Gaffer tells Bactine that everybody died at Pixie Pass other then Sangwine (who wasn't sure if he was dead or not himself).
