Lint: #332 - The strategy of an overlord is violence

  • Faticia · 1 year ago
I love how Zedwig's expression changes the second he is done doing whatever Fang asks him to do. It seems (to me) that whenever that happens, Zedwig is in control of himself again. Oh, Colby, I don't expect you to verify this theory. ;)
I think Zedwig is my favorite character by now. Gorgeous, gorgeous page. Oh, Fang's earing is glowing in the last panel... and so are Zedwig's hands.

Amazing last panel. Ever thought about posting pages with just the art and no words as vote incentives or something? Because I'd love to see this page's art on its own.
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
Well, contrary to how it seems, without the words, this page looks funny. :D

Also, I posted a few of the unworded panels in a higher resolution on my deviantArt site, if you wanna see more detail. Or more flaws. Either way.

it -does- look strange without the dialogue. Like a maiden being accosted by a passionate yet spurned suitor, perhaps? My mind immediately inserted something along the lines of
Zedwig: I'm-I'm sorry, Fang. I've got to go.
.Fang: What? Where are you going!?!?
    Zedwig: There...there's someone else.

Please don't find this insulting O_O

    Oh, Fangline, you little rascal.

Okay, so I'm probably REALLY slow OR reading into things, but is the purple stone clasp Fang's way of controlling Zedwig?
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
No, he just likes his purple clasp.

Actually, with all the "fang controlling zedwig" theories, this is the first scene with some solid proof of it. And I agree with Falco, some of these panals would look really really good as art on their own. The middle panal with Fang and Zedwig just watching the city burn is my favorite. Oh yeah, and that city wall is *huge*! We couldn't tell in the previous page but the first panal in this one put it all in perspective.

I feel so sad for Zedwig. Oh, make this scene drag on for as long as you want, and I will rejoice. This is one of my favorite scenes so far I think.
The backgrounds are awesome and the expressions are to die for. Keep it up :D
Hmmm... it must take quite a bit of destructive magic to actually make the user die. I wonder how many times Fang has done this, to have had to use all the healers already.

The last panel makes me squee =3I Love Lint!

Zedwig is so pretty. And it's nice to see him looking healthy, even if it is just a flashback.

...and I notice that Fang didn't get mad when Zedwig called him Fangline. Or maybe his expression in the last panel is a delayed reaction to the name.

I Love Zedwig's anguished expression in the last panel. He's so pretty <3

Is this an Elvish city they are destroying on this page?
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
No. It's a human city. The only real elven city/country is Schloeffelonia. They kinda keep to themselves.... usually.

I loved this painting before, but I understand it much more now:

Gotta love Zedwig in the 10th panel. Oooo his hair. :)

It would be interesting to know how Fang is controlling Zedwig. At first I thought he had charmed him magically to make him kill Sangwines family and afterwards when he was under his own control he could see no way out. But now I don't think Zedwig is that weak. It definately seems as if he is being forced against his will, but that would be very powerful magic to have a hold on him for so long and where would Fang have got that from. Zedwig is a powerful mage, so it would take powerful magics to control him.

Although Zedwig is ever so pretty and is delighting my muse to no end, I do feel this part of the story could have been more dramatic without this particular page.

Instead insert a cut scene to elsewhere and return back to the scene with Fang entering the city in triumph (and mass destruction). Leaving certain events to a reader's imagination, such as what it is that Zedwig actually does to blow down the gates, might've been a much more dramatic way to destroy the city (and leaves certain cards in the author's hands to unveil later) - since I feel the subtleness in the previous page (lovely facial expressions btw) already conveys much of what is said here.

Still, Zedwig is very pretty. And my shounen ai senses are tingling!
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
Well, that's some good food for thought, although there are a few things I needed to accomplish here that I felt were necessary for future events.
  • Erulisse · 1 year ago
It's nice solid proof that Fang is actually controlling Zedwig. I think some of the readers probably needed that.
  • Robert_K · 1 year ago
    Agreed.

It would seem to be the earring, seeing that it is what's glowing on Fang, in correspondence with Zedwig's glowing hands. Dunno if the color has any significance, but Fang's earring seems to be a pretty evil artifact.

    Poor Zedwig.
  • amuletts · 1 year ago
Oo I don't like the idea of someone like Fang with an artifact!

There is some really beautiful work on this page - the design and balance of the sixth panel in particular is very pleasing. And the last panel has great movement and drama. Can't forget the drama - never enough of that :D

    This scene breaks my heart.
