Wow, I'm impressed. Six hours? Most guys can't take it for ten minutes. Then again, he is quite the womanizer... he's probably had practice... not to mention his ribs just healed and he was probably reluctant to work them by shouting. Poor guy.

I think he is one of those types that just likes... peace and quiet. He finally thought he had gotten out of the action... and then someone volunteers him to go on a dangerous mission during which he has to face two or more people who think hes betrayed them.
I also think he feels remorseful when he is with Sangwine, although mostly subconsciously; however, this is the perfect chance for him to prove his loyalty. Geeves may be afraid that he will fail ... but mostly he just wants to be left alone.

Poor Al'bert! >:D This is, for him, the worst punishment of all, I think. My eyes would be glazing over, too, especially if I had stayed up all night not being able to go to sleep listening to a woman talk about her love (who happens to be someone else)! If I was a man, anyway... >_> Al'bert is very strong, to have borne it that long! *cracks up* I am so glad he is finally getting retribution for doing what he did. I think also that she is talking to take her mind off the pain....

Yay fer updates!
Anyhoo, I like how your characters will flop all over each other at any given moment, no romance necessarily involved (unless you have a REALLY surprising plot twist in mind involving Bactine and Al'bert).
Also, that scene transition made me think at first that Sangwine, Geeves, or Kelneth was talking...you know, about 'he tried to hold my hand in the forest" and I had an enjoyable moment of "wait, wut?"
