This page is epic win. XD Sangwine: "imagine the MISERY she must be suffering right now..." If by misery you mean the sidestitch obtained from laughing to hard! Al'bert did that on purpose. XD I think he is still a little loyal to Fang; and therefore fancies up his tale to the point where Bactine will not know what is true and what isn't. :) Besides the fact he may have just been trying to make her laugh!

Why does Xylic want to claim stupidity? If it were me I would let Sangwine take blame for Bactine's capture, then when she was rescued I would say that while Sangwine was busy punishing himself I was busy planning and executing her rescue.

Xylic is Sangwine's friend in the truest sense of the word. He wouldn't do such things. Besides, he feels equally guilty about Bactine's capture. He probably feels he must perform some type of penance to make up for it. Being humble is part of that. The other part is, of course, rescuing Bactine.
