Lint: #350 - Preparations in the night

Well, Colby, you were complaining about the coloring, but I think it's awesome. I personally am thrilled we're coming up on the serious action. XP

    Me too!

    Do love "sum'melph" and "sorighty!"
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
"Soright" is an old southern term I picked up from a book years ago, and although I never say it in real life cause it sounds weird, I make my characters say it fairly regularly because I find it quaint and vaguely amusing in an American way.

really?! I thought you made it up! (never lived in the South, so that explains it I guess) Sounded a bit renaissance-esque.

I love how the focus of the entire panel only says one thing the whole time, yet his facial expressions speak volumes. Very well done.
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
Thanks, I'm so glad that came out right!

I love the look on Gaffer's face... he certainly look sexcited
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
I'm going to assume you meant to type "excited", cause we are talking about old man Gaffer, here.

Sum'elph...Oh, those droll little touches, you wonderful comic artist, you!
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
Sum'melph made an appearance earlier in the comic, too.
  • Celidah · 1 year ago
He did? Boy, did I miss that. Where was he?

    "Sum'melph" = *SNERK*

Also, I love this whole page - the way you communicate what's going on with Sanguine without him uttering more than a couple of words (and also Stump being so perceptive), and him being the calm in the middle of all the flurry - the eye of the storm, so to speak. The expressions and color are very effective and just beautiful.

That's exactly what I was going for, yay. I wanted to tell the story of war preparations entirely from his single (kind of shell-shocked) perspective.
  • Vueiy · 1 year ago
    Ha, Sum'melph...some...elf...*snort*
  • Tilly · 1 year ago
You know, I totally didn't get the Sum'melph thing! I just interpreted it as a word that elves use instead of 'someone' or 'somebody', not an actual elf's name that is rather comical. I feel kind of thick now.
  • Wendy · 1 year ago
Wait, I didn't think it was a name...I thought it was 'somebody' for elves too... which is it, Colby?!
  • colbycheese · 1 year ago
It's a name, actually! But that would have been creative otherwise.
  • Wendy · 1 year ago
    *is shocked*
    I must have missed him!

    FIGHT TIME!! ...coming soon...
this may be slightly off topic... but i really Xylic gets "the girl"
i mean, come on! how come the cute scruffy guy always loses out...
  • Lissy · 1 year ago
the cute, scruffy guy didn't lose out in star wars... well, the scruffy one didn't, but some might say that the cute one did.

Poor Luke. I always thought it was goofy he wrote her in as being his long-lost twin sister. It seemed like a crazy afterthought to me.
