That's why Fang is shooting Bactine instead. He may not know she's a healer, but Sangwine rather innocently showed Fang that she matters to him a lot. And I don't think Fang would find it entertaining enough to just shoot Sangwine right out.
Or maybe he's shooting Zedwig, which would also make sense. Either way I just don't think he's shooting Sangwine.

oh no, i hadn't even thought of that! agh! i hope you're wrong, how can bactine heal herself? i wonder about that. i am certain he would NOT have taken a shot at zedwig, though, that's just absurd. fang loves zedwig, in an almost romantic way. fang either shot sangwine, because he's been gunning for him all along as his single competitor for the role of king, OR he shot bactine to inspire sang to kill him, to give sang the guts to do it, because he's really ready to die, doesn't want to be exiled or reformed, but on the balcony has just started to feel bad about what he'd done and ready to have it be over.

Hmn, good ideas for sure. Shooting Bactine would certainly inspire Sangwine. I thought it was *possible* Fang would shoot Zedwig due to his recent mutiny, but I suppose that depends on Fang's level of insanity. Since it does sort of seem like he was ready to give up, he might not do that.

I don't see that Sangwine's morality would be in question. I get so tired of our curren culture's 'a real hero never kills anyone' ethos. Sometimes, the bad guy needs to die! Fang is too powerful, too twisted, and had caused too much pain, suffering, and death to be spared. What else is Sangwine going to do? Lock him up? Ya, sure, that would work. Exile him? How long would it take for him to regroup and come back? Squeamish or not, Sangwine needs to put on his big boy pants and do what needs to be done.

That looks like it's drawn to resemble a flintlock pistol (which would fit the setting better than a more modern gun). If that's the case, Fang COULDN'T have a second shot for anyone, unless he had time to reload (which he doesn't).The flint mechanism itself is off, but that's just a technicality, really. The art gets the point across.
All that to say, Fang had only one shot. Like Captain Sparrow...only opposite, since he's the bad guy. Yes. *shifty eyes*

Oh God, oh God. No matter how I look at this it cannot be good! 1) Sanguine gets shot - and dies 2) Bactine jumps in the way - and dies 3) Sanguine is shot - Bactine saves him, but now Fang knows she is a healer. She is forced to heal Zedwig, she or both die. 4) Bactine jumps in the way and heals herself... progressed rather like 3. 5) Zedwig jumps in the way. 6) Fang misses - Hah! I found a good solution. This gives Sanguine an excellent reason for beating the living s*** out of him without anyone dying.

Technical response: Fantastic page. I love Sangwine's confusion over the gun, especially. And Fang's cold, unemotional response to the situation - a chance to finish what he started just jumped right in his lap. Of course he's going to take it. Well scripted, well drawn, well paced - I love it.

Sangwine in the sixth panel just breaks my heart. So helpless . . . Poor Sangwine!!! Now I have to wait to see if I am mistaken, and if something else magically happened! HEY! Maybe Zedwig saw it coming and deflected it with magic, and it ends up killing him instead and then Bactine has to save him . . . but then she dies T.T

Okay, this page has made me run around the basement of my house and yell for at least 5 minutes. Then I shook my sister badly and told her she could not live another minute without reading LinT. Which she did. Then we went "AAAAH" together.
And it's only now, about 6 hours after the initial post, that I manage to dare look at it again and post. That was awesome, unexpected and it makes me want to timejump to Tuesday like never before. Except perhaps when Al'bert went all awesome en-garde-y. That was awesome too. :D

There's just one thing that's egging at me about this... why would the resistance knowingly have Sangwine go up to deal with Fang, knowing that he has the gun? They've witnessed Fang execute others with it; Fang made sure of that. So that makes me leap to the idea that maybe they've prepped Sangwine somehow? ...Without describing the gun to him?
...This makes me very worried for both Zedwig and Bactine. I'm not fearing for Sangwine so much. And no, that's not just because I like Fang better, ahem. >.>;

It's very possible he was told about it, in fact Gaffer mentioned it when he told him the story about Fang leaving Schloeffelonia. However, if you've had a gun described to you but have never seen one, I'm not sure that'd be enough to make it instantly recognizable. Also there are a lot of distractions going on in Sangwine's mind at the moment... he didn't put two and two together, especially split-secondly like that. Well, he wouldn't... Sangwine's a bit of an innocent airhead. He doesn't understand the way Fang thinks and so the last thing he expected was to get shot with a strange weapon you can carry in your pocket. Last, the only people in the resistance who have actually seen the gun are Geeves and Gaffer. Fang used it once: to kill his father. Everyone else was killed by Zedwig (his preferred weapon, except for killing blood relations). It's a rudimentary gun; one shot and it has to be painstakingly reloaded. (Hope that's not a terrible spoiler, since that narrows down a few of the possibilities of what can happen next)
Why Sangwine is here instead of hiding somewhere safe has to do with Schloeffelonian law, which I didn't bother going into as I thought it would drag the story down, but I might add it later.

Fang isn't the gloaty type... he's the swift application of means-to-his-ends type. His favorite weapons are surprise and aggression, and he'd never give his opponents the advantage of knowing what he plans to do next, so you'll never have a scene with him where he tells his whole plan to the protagonist he's about to kill in some elaborate way.
"Your DOOM!" made me snicker. I need to make one of those kinds of bad guys sometime.
